Gary Gygax is a name known to all gamers. I first saw his name on my first edition of Dungeons and Dragons, a game that gave me a sense of wonder and friendship when I was 8 years old in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Gamers and people who love fantasy owe a lot to Gary. He epitomized what we love here at I'd Rather Be. The man quit his job in insurance to be a shoe repairman so he could spend more time gaming.
That's what I'd Rather Be celebrates in everyone we feature. A passion and wonder that defies the pressures we each feel to spend our time chasing money, power, or prestige.
We propose that from now on, in memory of Gary Gygax, a natural 20 be hereafter known as a "Gygax."
I'll never see the initials GG in quite the same way.
I can't think of a more fitting tribute! I'm on board.
